The Royal Society of Edinburgh is a membership organisation and Fellows are elected because of their eminence and high-standing. Complaints and allegations of serious misconduct against Fellows are exceedingly rare. Nevertheless, organisations such as the RSE are nowadays expected to have procedures in place to deal with complaints or allegations of misconduct if they are made. So, in order to maintain the high reputation of the RSE and its Fellows, the Council of the RSE has created a procedure, which sets out the process for dealing with such situations in a fair and proportionate manner.
The procedure is available to view here.
Council has appointed Sir David Edward KCMG, QC, PC to chair the Independent Review Panel which will investigate any complaints referred to it. This three year appointment will start from Session 2013/14.
