The Royal Society of Edinburgh has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Polish Academy of Sciences to facilitate, encourage and support research collaboration in all areas between research groups in Scotland and Poland. This scheme is additional to and complements existing schemes operated at UK level by the Royal Society and the British Academy in London.

PhD students and researchers who have completed their PhD within the last five years may also be interested in the British-Polish Young Scientists Programme 2006, which enables participants to make one or more research visits to a partner organisation in the UK (for Polish participants) or to a Polish Institution (for UK participants). Please see the British Council Poland website for more information.

The RSE exchange programme began in 2003 and grants are awarded through a competitive process to support study visits to and from Poland.

Exchange Programme grants are for short-term visits of one to four weeks duration, the key objectives being to enhance the research capabilities of individual researchers, develop international collaborative links and enable participation in international programmes. Both visitors and hosts in Poland should have established contact before submitting an application, either by previous collaboration or by scientific correspondence.

Visits are funded by the terms of agreements with the Polish Academy of Sciences. The RSE will pay the cost of APEX or equivalent fares plus travel to and from the UK departure point. Local costs will be met by the Polish Academy of Sciences.
