John Moyes Lessells Travel Scholarships

John Moyes Lessells Travel Scholarships

These Scholarships arise from a bequest from the late Professor John Moyes Lessells, an eminent mechanical engineer who emigrated to the United States of America in 1920. The Scholarships are for Honours Graduates in all forms of Engineering from Scottish Universities, who wish to study some aspect of their profession outwith the UK.

Recipients of the Scholarships must indicate that they intend to return to the UK after their period of study overseas. The Scholar will be appointed for any period up to a maximum of one year, although visits of approximately two to five months are strongly preferred. Visits of less than two months will not normally be considered.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the Royal Society of Edinburgh to discuss particular aspects of their application and its suitability for funding under the terms and priorities of the Lessell’s bequest.

Regulations and application instructions are available by following the links on the left-hand menu.

The 2016 deadline has now passed. Applications will open again in early 2017.
