Nominees for the Studentships must be graduates, or students who expect to graduate within a short time of the nomination being made.
A degree with First-Class or 2.1 Honours is a necessary pre-requisite for consideration. In Faculties which do not award Honours, eg Medicine, the equivalent standard will be expected. Only students who meet these criteria by the date of application will be considered
All applicants for Studentships must be nominated by a Professor, Reader or Lecturer in a Scottish University.
Nominators must note that only one Studentship is available in 2011 and that the strictest standards of selection will be enforced. In assessing applicants for nomination, nominators will be expected to have regard to the awards obtainable for postgraduate study or research from such bodies as the Research Councils, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland and the British Academy.
The Research Studentship is tenable for a period of three years. Once appointed, the Research Students will be expected to devote their full time to research. A maximum of 100 hours per annum is permitted for laboratory demonstrating.
Research Students will be required to pursue their research in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Scotland.
