30 November, 2016
6pm, The Royal Society of Edinburgh
Speaker: Irina Bokova, Director-General, UNESCO
Irina Bokova will examine the unprecedented increase of attacks against cultural heritage and diversity in conflicts today, including industrial looting of cultural goods and archaeological sites - the war crime of cultural cleansing. She will review the importance of responding to such attacks, at the international, regional and national levels, to protect cultural heritage and diversity, to halt the illicit trafficking of cultural goods, which fuels further terrorism, and to prevent youth radicalisation through education for global citizenship.
