An Introduction to Computing Science

Posted 24/10/2012

Implementation of Curriculum for Excellence and the development of new National Qualifications in Scotland have presented a timely opportunity to revise the way Computing Science is taught in schools and provide a more interesting, up-to-date and engaging experience for both teachers and learners.

New teaching materials are now available.

This is the first in a series of three resources being developed by the RSE and the BCS Academy of Computing that exemplify Computing Science aspects of Curriculum for Excellence.

This resource introduces learners to Computing Science and computational thinking using MIT’s ‘Scratch’ programming environment.

As well as lessons, exercises and sample answers, this resource contains suggested supplementary activities and inter-disciplinary learning opportunities.

More information about the other resources is available from here.
