RSE President writes to UK Prime Minister about European funding concerns

Posted 16/12/2014

Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, has written to The Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, urging him to resist proposals by the European Commission to divert €2.7 billion from the Horizon 2020 budget to pay towards a European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI).

In the letter, Dame Jocelyn writes:

The UK performs extremely well in the highly competitive research awards made through Horizon 2020, and Scotland performs particularly well; a reduction in the available funding would significantly reduce our return from the European Council.
