RSE responds to Scottish Government consultation on Lobbying Transparency Bill
The RSE has submitted a response to a Scottish Government consultation on a proposed Lobbying Transparency Bill. The response questions whether a case has been established that legislation on this topic is required. The RSE also recommends to the Government that if it does choose to proceed it needs to be careful not to put an onerous bureaucratic burden on organisations in civic Scotland who are engaging with MSPs in a legitimate manner that informs the legislative and governmental processes of the Scottish Government and Parliament. The Society also questions whether there is a need for criminal sanctions in the proposed Bill.
