The Findings of the Nurse Review of Research Councils

Posted 14/04/2016

The Royal Society of Edinburgh has responded to the findings of the Nurse Review of resarch councils. The RSE submitted comments in April 2015 to this review.

The proposals in the Nurse Review are accompanied by subtle qualifications and caveats. It is important in taking forward the Review that the Government fully appreciates and heeds these. The RSE welcomes, therefore, the recommendation that the seven disciplinary research councils are retained. The RSE believes that mergers or changes to this structure at this stage could prove distracting to the research councils and ultimately could negatively impact upon the UK's research capability.
