Higher Education and Research Bill
The RSE has engaged in the process that has led to the publication and scrutiny of the Higher Education and Research Bill. From the outset, the RSE recognised that the Bill would have significant implications for higher education and research in Scotland. Its provisions include the establishment of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), a single strategic body bringing together the seven Research Councils, Innovate UK, and Research England.
The RSE has expressed significant concern that the Bill does not recognise the need for UKRI to take account of all four nations of the UK.
The key points we make are summarised in recent responses to:
The Scottish Parliament Education and Skills Committee scrutiny of the Bill. Read our response here (17 October 2016).
The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee inquiry into the role and priorities of the UKRI interim chair. Read our response here (6 October 2016).
