The RSE believes that the Scottish Government's draft budget and spending review should be more explicit about how they will contribute to the Government's stated aim of sustainable economic growth. The RSE is concerned that the current budget does not meet certain criteria, namely: a strategic approach; the setting of priorities; evidence-based policy; cost-benefit analysis and opportunity costs; and consistency between policies.

Professor Jeremy Peat FRSE will represent the RSE when the Finance Committee takes evidence on the delivery of economic growth within the context of the spending review at the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 26th October.
